Abstract During‘The Thirteenth Five-year Plan’period，research activities on pepper genetics and breeding were supported by state Ministry of Science and Technology，Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs，and various local financial departments．Thus，all work had gained rapid development，providing strong support to the healthy development of pepper production and rural revitalization．This paper reviewed the development of genetic breeding of Capsicum spp., production and market situation in China during this period．The paper also prospected the future development of pepper genetics and breeding，and production development．
