Abstract Tomato（Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.）tissue culture is the foundation for genetic transformation and functional genomics study．The paper focuses on the factors which include genotype，explant，plant growth regulators，physical factors，rooting conditions etc．influencing tomato in vitro regeneration，and research progress made in studying tissue morphology and somatocyte variation during regeneration．The paper also prospects the research on tomato tissue culture in the near future．
