Abstract The effect of sodium alginate on Raphanus sativus L. seedlings in adaptation to salt- tolerance was studied by water culture. The results showed that after culture solution seedlings of Raphanus sativus L. were dealt with NaCl concentration at 3-12 g?L-1, adding sodium alginate concentration at 0.5 g?L-1, the seedlings survival rate was increased by 41.1 %, the number of root was increased by 34.9 %, the single plant seedlings weight was increased by 34.7 %, and the SOD activity was increased by 35.4 %. All these indicated that sodium alginate can increase salt-tolerance adaptability of Raphanus sativus L. seedlings, and relief the harm brought about by NaCl stress.
