Abstract Research on Chinese cabbage（Brassica rapa L. ssp. pekinensis）genetics and breeding has made great progress in China during‘The Eleventh Five-year Plan’period. Great achievements have been made on its identification and evaluation of germplasm resources, innovation of breeding material, breeding technology, isolated microspore culture and new variety selection, especially on applying molecular marker technology in germplasm diversity, genetic analysis, assistant selection etc. Technology of male sterile breeding has been improved greatly. A number of new varieties has been developed. In this paper the existing problems were analyzed and future research tasks were also prospected.
