4 Effect of Soil Water on Brown Blotchy Ripening in Tomato Fruit

The experiment on effect of soil water on blotchy ripening in tomato fruit was conducted with variety Jiafen No.10 in greenhouse. The results indicated that incidence and index of blotchy ripening in tomato fruit were increased at high level of soil water (>16%) for a long time,and high level of water in soil could result in underdeveloping of roots and decreasing of root activity.

The line P 1168 with parthenocarpy of cucumber sets fruit well without pollination,the daily increased values fruit weight (FW),fruit length (FL) and fruit size (FS) of P 1168 with pollination or unpollination are 23.64g,27.88g;2.33cm,2.72cm;0.61cm 3,0.65cm 3 respectively. 7 Yield Effect of Ginger in Plastic House

The effect of plastic house and plastic film mulch on ginger’s growth and yield was studied. The result indicated that the ginger plants cultivated in plastic house broke the earth earlier than the control,had larger growth quantities,higher rate of leaf strentching,higher and stronger shoots and more branches,also gave more accumulation of dry matter and higher yield. The ginger mulched with plastic film in plastic house grew best and had the highest yield amoung the three treatments.

12 Breeding of a New Sweet Pepper F 1 Hybrid — ‘Cuiyu’

Cuiyu is a new blocky sweet pepper F 1 hybrid with mid early maturity. The number of nodes under the first flower is 12~13,fruit size is 7.5-9.5×6.7-7.0cm,and the wall is 0.36~0.41cm in thickness,average fruit wight is 100~130g and the maximum is 150g. Its early yield is 17.2t·hm -2 and total yield is 31.2t·hm -2 . It is tolerant to CMV and phytophthora blight,and can be grown both in protected and open field.

Longfan No.8 is a new hybrid developed by crossing 920354 with 920387.Fruit is oblate and pink. Average fruit weight is 138.7g. It takes only 45 days from flowering to first harvest and maturity is 9-10 days earlier than that of Xifen No.3. Early yield 2.52t·hm -2 is 18.3% higher than that of Xifen No.3 and occupied 38.26% of total yield. It is suitable for cultivation in Beijing,Shijiazhuang,Zhengzhou,Lanzhou,Urumqi and Hefei.
