1 Genetics Research and Improvement of Carotenoids in Vegetable Crops with Gene Engineering

Carotenoids play vital roles in plant photosynthesis and protecting against chlorophyll bleaching.Carotenoids have a range of diverse biological functions,especially in relation to human health.There are more than 20 key genes been cloned,which are possible to genetically manipulate carotenoid biosynthesis pathway in plants.In this review,recent progress of carotenoid genetics are summarized,and introduced some successful transgenic plants which were altered the carotenoid composition and content with gene engineering in main vegetables such as tomato,carrot and pepper.

8 Effects of Different Intercropping Patterns on the Growth of Cucumber in Greenhouse and Soil Environment

In this experiment,wheat,soybean and oat were used to intercropping cucumber to explore impacts of different intercropping patterns on cucumber growth and soil environment.The results showed that:three crops interplanting significantly reduced the soil bulk density,significantly increased the total soil porosity.During the entire growing period,three treatments significantly reduced the accumulation of salt in soil,and in the latter part of fertility,the value of EC decreased 38.96 % than in the control;the content of organic matter in the treatments(wheat intercropping cucumber)and the treatments(oat intercropping cucumber)were significantly higher than the control;the number of fusarium of the treatments(wheat intercropping cucumber)was dropped by an average of 69.44 %.The three treatments obviously promote the cucumber growth and increase its yield.Cucumber intercropping wheat has the best effect and achieves the objective of relaxing the soil obstacle brought by successive cropping in greenhouse.

14 QTL Mapping Related to Leaf Morphological Traits in Brassica rapa L.ssp.pekinensis

QTL analysis was conducted for leafy morphological traits including leave length,stem-less leaves length,petiolate leaves length,leaf width,petiole length and petiole width in a Brassica rapa DH population and a gengtic linkage map which had 287 markers.The results showed that twelve QTLs located on four linkage groups were detected,including three for leaf length,two for stemless leaves length,two for petiolate leaves length,one for leaf width,two for petiole length,and two for petiole width.The variation explained ranged from 7.5 % to 18.9 %.QTL analysis found that the QTL of leaf length and petiole length,leaf width and petiole width were co-localized.

20 Studies on Agrobacterium-mediated Transformation of Potato with ODREB2B Gene

ODREB2B gene was originated from Orychophragmus vidaceus which exist in adverse resistance transcription factor.In this study,ODREB2B gene was transferred into the potato cultivars‘Huangmazi’and‘Zhongshu No.3’by Agrobacterium-mediated transformation,and influence factors of genetic transformation were optimized.Microtuber discs were used as explants.33 resistant plants of‘Huangmazi’and 27 resistant plants of‘Zhongshu No.3’were obtained.Resistant plants were blot analysis by PCR-Southern,of which 16 and 14 plants had a positive amplification.PCR-Southern blot showed that single copies of the ODREB2B gene were inserted into the genome of the transgenic plants.

26 Clone and Analysis of Eggplant GA Response Factor SmGAI

RT-PCR and RACE were used to amplify cDNA sequence of GA response factor in‘Hangzhouhongqie’.The gene named SmGAI was cloned.The length cDNA sequence of this gene is 1 176 bp with an ORF of 972 bp in length and was translated into 323 amino acids.The gene was highly homologous with parthenocarpy-related gene SlDELLA in tomato and the identity is 76.8 %.

31 Correlation and Path Analysis between the Main Agronomic and Fruit-cracking Traits of Watermelon

The correlation and path analysis on 14 agronomic traits of watermelon were studied.The results of correlation analysis showed that the thickness of skin and lignifications degree of epicarps were significantly related to fruit cracking rate.The gradual regression analysis revealed that 10 traits have direct and indirect effects on fruit cracking.The determine coefficient is 1.000 and the rest path coefficient is 0.001 8.Because of the direct path coefficient reaches 0.796,the lignifications degree of epicarps plays an important role on fruit cracking.So it can be taken as a main selective trait for anti-cracking variety.

36 Analysis about Correlation Heritability and Selection Indexes of Quantitative Characters of Tumorous Stem Mustard

In the present experiment,23 tumorous stem mustard varieties were used to study the orrelative genetic relations with correlation heritability among the quantitative characters.Selection index was also evaluated between tumorous stem yield and quantitative characters that were significantly and hereditarily correlated with tumorous stem yield.The results showed that correlation heritability between quantitative characters and tumorous stem yield was below the heritability of tumorous stem yield.More analysis found that synthesis indirect selection had no distinct superiorities,and efficiency of indirect selection by vegetative duration corresponded to that of direct selection on yield.High yield breeding combining with strong ecological adaptability and good quality should be largely depended on later maturity and tumorous stem diameter or higher ratio of stem and leaf.

41 Evaluation on Nutritive Elements and Commodity Traits of Chinese Kale Germplasm Resources

The content of nutritional ingredient and the commodity value of 13 Chinese kale germplasm resources were measured and evaluated.It was showed that the content of vitamin C was 0.80-1.41 mg·g-1(fresh weight),the highest carotenoid content was 0.016 6 mg·g-1(fresh weight),the range of reducing sugar content was 2.85-8.17 mg·g-1(dry weight),the content of soluble sugar was 12.38-23.80 mg·g-1(dry weight).In addition,all accessions had the lower protein content and the middle crude fiber content.The commodity evaluation showed that Ba17 had the best flavor,Ba35 had the best texture,Ba25 and Ba44 had the most beautiful external appearance.Correlation analysis of the nutritional ingredients and the commodity traits showed that the content of the reducing sugar was most significantly positively correlated with the content of the soluble sugar,and significantly positively correlated with the sweet taste,but significantly negatively correlated with the protein content,the carotenoid content and the fresh taste. The protein content was most significantly negatively correlated with the soluble sugar content.There were significantly negatively correlation both between the fresh taste and the sweet taste,the content of vitamin C and soluble sugars.There was significantly positively correlation between the crisp and the fibrous taste,but the crude fiber content was not correlation with the fibrous taste and the crisp degree.

45 Studies on Tomato Leaf Area Index Measurement Method Based on BP Neural Network

In order to quickly and accurately predict tomato leaf area index and according to the principles of BP neural network,tomato leaf area index measurement method is exercised and established.After testing,it is practical and dependable to use this method to forecast tomato leaf area index by tomato growth days without destroying the plant lamina.

51 Application Studies on Natural Zeolites Used as Slow-released Fertilizer for Spinach Cultivation

Soil culture was used to study the effects of natural zeolites used as slow-released fertilizer on biomass and quality of spinach.Results showed that Z+1/2NK treatment used half of N and K in CF treatment,but the spinach yield increased obviously,compared to CF treatment.The increase rate was up to 22.31 %.Under the experimental condition,CF and Z+1/2NK treatments achieved the highest Vitamin C contents.Nitrate contents in spinach of CF and the treatments of applied zeolites were all significantly higher than that of CK,and that of Z+1/2NK was the highest and reached 1 671 mg·kg-1,but which was far lower than the limited value in safety(3 100 mg·kg-1)of nitrate and the spinach in this experiment was safe to eat.Total oxalate,soluble oxalate and insoluble oxalate concentrations in Z+1/2NK treatment were significantly reduced than other treatments applied zeolites.At the same time,the proportion of soluble oxalate/total oxalate was decreased and that of insoluble oxalate/total oxalate was increased in Z+1/2NK treatment.Thus it reduced the risk of oxalate for human health for certain extent.In one word,Z+1/2NK treatment is an optimum treatment for spinach production under this experimental condition.

56 Effects of Grafting on Photosynthetic Characteristics of Eggplants

The photosynthetic characteristics of grafted and non-grafted eggplants were exhibited in the paper.The results showed that the chlorophyll contents of grafted eggplants were significantly higher than that of non-grafted one.The diurnal changing patterns of photosynthetic rate(Pn),intercelluar CO2 concentration(Ci),transpiration rate(Tr)and stomatal conductance(Gs)in grafted eggplants were the same as the non-grafted one,but their diurnal average values were significantly higher than that of the non-grafted one.At the same time,grafting decreased the light compensation and CO2 compensation points,and increased the light saturation and CO2 saturation points.Therefore,the efficiency of light and CO2 utilization of eggplants was also improved.However,effects of grafting on photosynthetic characteristics of eggplants differed in different root stocks.

61 Effect of Bagging on Quality of Muskmelon

This paper studied the effects of bagging on quality of muskmelon by using plastic bags of 7 colors and 2 kinds of white paper bags.The result showed as follows:bagging improved muskmelon appearance obviously,and increased fruit weight and firmness.Bagging also increased VC content by different degrees,except the black plastic bag;most of the bags(except the blue plastic bag)could increase the contents of fructose,sucrose,soluble sugar and total sugar.Bagging decreased the content of soluble protein.Its effect on total soluble solids content was not obvious.White and red plastic bags and vitriol paper bag had better effect in improving the flavor of muskmelon.

65 A New Chinese Cabbage F1 Hybrid —‘Jinqiu 78’

‘Jinqiu 78’is a new midmaturity Qingmaye Chinese cabbage F1 hybrid developed by crossing self-incompatible lines J406 with H229.Its growth period is about 78 days.The plant is 50 cm in height,62 cm in width. The plant type is vertical with dark green and light wrinkled outer leaves and light green petiole.Its leaf head is long cylinder-shaped with green outer leaves and yellow central leaves.Its leaf head is 44 cm in height,14 cm in diameter.Its average head weight is 3.0-3.5 kg.The head shape index is 3.3.Its yield is about 90 t·hm-2.It is suitable for clutivation in autumn in Liaoning,Shandong,Hebei,Henan,Tianjin and Shaanxi.

67 A New Chinese Cabbage F1 Hybrid —‘Zhebai No.6’with Special Eating Type of Young Seedling

‘Zhebai No.6’is a new Chinese cabbage F1 hybrid with special eating type of young seedling,which was bred by crossing two self-incompatible lines S99-PB533 and S02-PB658.The plant is vigorous in growth,24 cm in height,20 cm in diameter,light green at outer leaves,white in petiole and without hair.The outer leaf blade is 30.2 cm in length and 18.0 cm in width.The leaves are very tender with a lovely flavor.Single plant weight is about 60 g.The net yield can reach about 36 t·hm-2.It has high resistance to black spot,resistance to virus and downy mildew.It is suitable to be cultivated for the purpose of eating young seedling of Chinese cabbage in the Yangtze River valley,northeastern,northern and southwestern China.

69 A New Chinese Cabbage F1 Hybrid —‘Weibai No.4’

‘Weibai No.4’is a new Chinese cabbage F1 hybrid with middle-late maturity,developed by crossing two inbred lines BZ-02-17 and BZ-02-18.It can be harvested about 78 days after sowing.It is 39 cm in plant height,66 cm in plant spread,and the leaf head is oval,with white color,31 cm in height,21 cm in diameter,5.7 kg in weight.The spherical index is 1.4.Cabbage compaction reaches 84 %,and the ratio of net product is 74.9 %.It has high resistance to downy mildew and black rot disease,resistance to virus.In the two years of regional trial,the net output is 87.6 t·hm-2.It is suitable to be cultivated in middle-late autumn in Shandong,Hebei,Beijing,Liaoning,Heilongjiang,Henan,Jiangsu and Shanxi.

71 A New Onion F1 Hybrid —‘Jinxing’

Wampee onion‘Jinxing’is a new F1 hybrid developed by crossing male sterile line with a male parent.Both the female parent(also called male sterile line 59A)and its maintainer line 59B originated from a Japanese variety‘かいづか Zaosheng’.The male parent came from the inbred line 93-7-3-6-9-2-1-6,which is the self-pollinated progeny of a variety‘Gangcong 841’.‘Jinxing’has middleearly maturity.The period from sowing to bulb harvesting is about 240 days.The plant height is 65-70 cm,with dark green and 9-10 functional leaves.It has round golden-brown bulb with 8-10 cm transverse diameter and 7-9 cm vertical diameter.The average weight of single bulb is 370-430 g.The white consolidated interior smells mild and sweet pungency.Its yield is about 105 t·hm-2.It is suitable for cultivation in the open field of most part of China.

74 Selection and Breeding of Tomato Rootstock Variety with Resistance to Root-knot Nematodes

The‘Xianchongjue No.1’,‘Xianchongjue No.2’,‘Xianchongjue No.3’and‘Xianchongjue No.4’of tomato rootstock materials for resistanting to rootknot nematodes were respectively developed from four crosses between the same male WY Kang-12 with four females BJ-7,DB-14, DB-15,DB-17.The F1 hybrid was of infinite growth type,could grow strongly with well-developed root system and high resistance to southern root-knot nematode disease.The identification of root knot series was 0 by potted planting.The grafted organizes had good affinity and increase yield significantly in tomato cultivation experiment. In this experiment that tomato‘Jinpeng No.1’grafted on rootstock of‘Xianchongjue No.1’,‘Xianchongjue No.2’,‘Xianchongjue No.3’and‘Xianchongjue No.4’.Compared with the contrast which is non-grafted and non-controlled,the former ones were immune to root-knot nematodes and the production increased 58.05 %,50.76 %,76.96 % and 75.95 %,respectively.Moreover,‘Xianchongjue No.3’and‘Xianchongjue No.4’increased 32.33 % and 31.57 % compared with the controlled and non-grafted.Especially,there was no influence on tomato quality.
