Experiment on effects of fertilizer application in protected tomato cultivation on the changes of the contents of soil nutrients and soil salinity under various fertilization models were conducted in the autumn of 2000 and the spring of 2001. The results showed that the application of N at rate of 225 kg·hm -2 with sheep waste at 26.2 t·hm -2 reached the highest yield, but the economically optimum application rate should be below 225 kg·hm -2. 8 Transfer Male Sterile Gene of Chinese Cabbage to Inbred Line 97A407

Based on the multiple allele hypothesis,the male sterile lines 98109 and fertile plant 99135-2 of AB lines type Ⅰ of Chinese cabbage were used as a source of male sterility,the inbred line 97A407 as goal parent. The gene of male sterility was transferred to 97A407. New AB line type Ⅰ,new male sterile line and their corresponding temporary maintainer line were abtained from transferred progenies deprived from 97A407. It promotes the breeding of F 1 hybrid of Chinese cabbage.

11 Studies on the Storage Physiology of Kidney Bean Seeds with Different Moisture Contents

The paper dealt with the storage effect of different moisture contents on kidney bean seeds. Seeds were dried by desiccant CaCl 2 to 3 moisture levels (7.44%,5.56% and 4.55%) respectively. Germination percentage,vigor index,conductivity,superoxide dismutase activity and aging test were measured every three months. 13 Growth Trend of Blade and Characteristic of Tillering and Bolting in Chinese Chives (Allium tuberosum Rottl. ex Spreng.)

The experiment on growth trend of Chinese chives blade and its characteristic of tillering and bolting was carried out, using three dormancy and nine non-dormancy varieties. The results showed that without cutting in a year, a single Chinese chives plant grew 41.22 to 47.03 blades, average age of blade was 39.33 to 44.87 days. 16 Comparation of Three Inoculation Methods for Phytophthora Blight Resistance

Effects of different inoculation methods, A) leaf in vitro inoculation, B) cut-off stem inoculation, and C) drench with zoosperm inoculation on eight pepper varieties were compared. Results showed that the three methods were all effective ways to test the resistance to pepper phytophthora blight. In method A, leaves were collected from field and detected in laboratory. 19 Preliminary Report on Isolation and Screening of Endophtic Bacteria to Control Bacterial Wilt of Tomato

By successfully isolating endophytic bacteria from roots of healthy tomato, 18 strains could inhibit the growth of Ralstonia solanacearum on plate culture. Greenhouse tests indicated that the diseae-control efficiency of the strains named as 01-144 and 01-182 were up to 48.6% and 42.8% respectively. By bacterial identification,the two strains all belonged to Bacillus spp.

Guiyou No.1 is a new chieh-qua(Benincasa hispida coga. var. chieh-qua How.) variety with early maturity,high yield,good quality,resistance to some fungi diseases, selected from the F 1 which was bred by crossing Wuzhou chieh-qua and Nanning chieh-qua. Single plant of the variety has more fruits than that of other varieties. The yield is about 102-127.5t·hm -2.
