Abstract EST-SSR markers are newly-developed molecular markers based on expressed sequence tags（EST）sequences．Compared with traditional genome SSR，EST-SSR is mainly characterized by low development cost，convenient access to gene expression data，and wide applicability in species，which is particularly useful for crops without completion of genome sequencing．This article reviews the progress made in developing and applying EST-SSR markers in vegetable crops during recent years．It is expected to promote the further application of EST-SSR marker in vegetable crops.
