Abstract Based on the basic theory of crop cross-breeding，this study summarized the population
size of F2 generation selected by watermelon〔Citrullus lanatus（Thunb.）Matsum et Nakai〕inbred
line pedigree method，selection technique at middle-early growth stage，planting density according to
the ratio of the left to all plants at middle-early growth stage，test planting group number of F3 generation，
and population number of each group，etc. Thus，the traditional watermelon selective breeding
technique by pedigree method was improved．The duration of watermelon inbred selection was shortened
by 2-3 generations，the watermelon breeding process was sped up， and the breeding cost was reduced．
