Application of the VBA Test for Detecting Vegetable Viruses

Strains Comn 1 and No.1800 of Staphylococcus aureus have been first compared during serological tests for detecting tomato viruses by virobacterial agglutination test (VBA). The results showed that the strain No. 1800’s sensitivities were 2～ 10 times higher than strain Comn 1’s. The former enabled the detection of ToMV,CMV and PVX viruses at a concentration of 3.4 ～ 13.0 ng / mL and the maximum leaf sap dilution of 1/ 1000 ～1/ 100000, which were almost equal to them by PAS-ELISA. ...

Studies on Insecticidal Activity of Several Organophosphorus Insecticides against Vegetable Leafminer Liriomyza sativae (Diptera Agromyzidae)

The toxicity of several organophosphorus insecticides chlorpyrifos,dimethoate,malathion and dichlorvos to the larvae and female adult of Liriomyza sativae was determined. The adult eating and egg laying repellent in choice and no choice assays were also investigated. The results indicated that the 1st,2nd and 3rd instar larvae and female adult of leafminer were very sensitive to chlorpyrifos,the LC 50 of the 1st,2nd and 3rd instar larvae was 0.0682,0.1216 and 0.1423 g/L respectively. Applied on Complex Media of Celery Plug Seedlings

The experiment was conducted using different of complex media mixed with local cheap materials in different ratio,cottonseed shell,furfural residue,vermiculite,pig manure and coal cinder,in order to study effects of the complex media on celery plug seedlings. Comparison of the Prematurity of Different Luffa cylindrica Varieties

The prematurity and yield of six varieties of L. cylindrica were compared in fields. The results showed that ‘Jingmenzhong’ and ‘Hangzhou Rousigua’ with low node position of the 1st female flower,high early yield and total yield,were suitable for purpose of prematurity breeding,so was ‘Baiyushang’ with higher early yield and medium total yield. ‘Changsigua’ with strong growth and high total yield was useful for breeding also. Breeding of New Cucumber Cultivar ‘Jinlu No. 4’

Jinlu No. 4’ is a new open field hybrid bred from F15 and Q24. It is early maturing, high resistant to downy mildew,powdery mildew and Fusarium wilt. It needs only 60 days from sowing to the first harvest,its early yield is about 10.5 t/ ha, and total yield reachs 82.5 t/ ha, which is 15% ～ 20% higher than that of ‘Jinchun No. 4’. Selection of Storable Tomato Variety ‘Xinfan No. 5’
Zhang Chaohui;Liu Wei
Xinfan No. 5’is a F 1 hybrid crossing ‘Zhongshu No. 6’ and line ‘0307’ with nonripening gene. The plant habit is indeterminate. The fruit is dark red and round. Average fruit weighted 140～160g. Thick skin and meat make the variety storable and resistant to cracking. When the fruits were stored for 70～90 day in autumn under room conditions. Seventy percent of fruits remained good.

Development of a New Early Tomato Variety——‘Qifan No. 6’
Nie Liqin;Li Deze;Jia Jian et al.
Qifan No. 6’,a new pink determinate tomato variety,was bred through composite hybridyzation. It is virus resistant and adaptable for condensed planting. The variety gave 140g to 160 g per fruit and 95 days from sowing to first harvest. Its harvest period duration concentrates only in 10 days and its early yield occupies 85% of total yields.

Breeding of Tomato F 1 Hybrid ‘Dongnong 706’ for Processing
Wang Fu;Xu Xiangyang;Li Jingfu et al.
F 1 hybrid ‘Dongnong 706’ was bred by crossing line VF 13-L with resistance to TMV and Roma VF. The fruit is scarlet and high round. The soluble solid content is over 5.5% . The lycopene is over 8.5 mg / 100g. Average fruit weighed 60～70g. The variety showed high resistance to TMV and 112 days from sowing to first harvest. The variety can be used for processing.
