Abstract The environmental conditions under which Momordica charantia seedling grew affected its sex expression. Both varieties“Zhuzhou Changbai”and“Yingyin”were short-day plants,the short day length resulted in earlier plant development and more female flowers. The short-day treatment period of Momordica charantia seedlings should be from the day when the seedlings were first emerged to the day when the sixth leaf appeared(at age of 20 days).
